AN HOTELIER OF VISION, JOHN JEFFERIS TALKS TO JUDITH MORRIS ABOUT HIS PHILOSOPHY BEHIND
THE SUCCESSFUL COCO REEF RESORT IN TOBAGO AND ITS SISTER PROPERTY IN BERMUDA


  Bermudian hotelier John Jefferis has built his career around developing great hotels in the Caribbean. But his business style is that of an impresario rather than an hotelier. He regularly tells people, 'We are not in the hotel business; we are in the business of theatre. . I set the stage and the staff are the actors in the show. Every day is a performance, and we can't ever have an off day.'
   There have been some spectacular performances over the years. John Jefferis has enjoyed a career punctuated by awards and accolades. His individual and highly successful approach to running hotels has led to him be one of the most successful
  hoteliers in the Caribbean. John Jefferis is probably best known as the owner of the fabulous Coco Reef Tobago, and now Coco Reef Bermuda. He also recently opened Café Coco, a 300 seat Caribbean theme restaurant and nightclub.
   Jefferis is a past President of the Bermuda Hotel Association and a past member of the Bermuda Government’s Tourist Board and Marketing Committee. He is a past President and Chairman of the Caribbean Hotel Association and was Chairman of CHA’s Marketing Committee for six years. In 1989, he won the first Bermuda ‘Hotelier of the Year’ award.
